Cars in German City Discovered Marked with Nazi Symbols in Human Blood, Law Enforcement Report

Incident location Affected vehicle Area Law Enforcement
Authorities stated they were contacted by a resident who noticed a car in Hanau marked with reddish substance

Roughly fifty cars have been smeared with what seems to be blood from a person in the Germany's municipality of Hanau in proximity to Frankfurt, according to police.

Cars, building surfaces and postboxes were defaced, sometimes with prohibited symbols, they reported in a statement.

Police report they were notified late on Wednesday evening, when a resident observed that a vehicle in the Lamboy district of Hanau had been covered with a reddish-hued substance.

The fluid had been applied in the pattern of a Nazi symbol, they added.

Officers then located multiple other vandalized automobiles and building exteriors in the surrounding area.

Swastikas are banned in Germany under laws outlawing the public exhibition of symbols from the Nazi era.

Officials report initial examinations indicate the liquid was likely human bodily fluid.

"Currently there is no indication as to its source; investigators are currently not cognizant of any physical harm in connection with the occurrence," they added.

Local authorities said they were trying "to solve the incident" and have asked to the community for information.

A high-ranking political figure stated the vandalism rendered him without words and needed to be solved quickly.

"This event affects the center of Hanau and reopens the pain of the far-right violent incident in 2020," he wrote on online, mentioning the murder of nine individuals by a shooter focusing on individuals of migrant background in February 2020.
